01 Why you need it
What the NIE unlocks in Barcelona
Barcelona hires, teaches and hosts people from everywhere: engineers on relocation packages, master’s students, designers working for a client in Berlin, couples buying a flat in Gràcia. Almost all of those plans reach the same counter first, because a Spanish payroll, a lease, a bank account and a notary’s deed all ask for a NIE.
- 01 Sign an employment contract and appear on the payroll
- 02 Rent a flat in your own name, from Gràcia to Poblenou
- 03 Open a bank account for a salary or a mortgage
- 04 Buy a flat, a car or company shares before a notary
- 05 Go freelance as an autónomo and send your first invoices
- 06 Put electricity, fibre and a mobile line in your name
- 07 Enrol at a university, a business school or a language school
- 08 Settle an inheritance with assets in Spain
02 How it works
Three steps to a complete NIE file
The number is issued in one visit. The effort lies before it: choosing the form that matches your case, paying the fee with the correct code, finding a free slot on the cita previa system for the province, and turning up at the office that deals with your passport. That preparation is the part we do with you.
- 01
Open the file
Tell us your passport, why you need the number and when you land. We answer with the procedure that fits, the office it belongs to and the list of papers for your case, nothing generic.
- 02
Fill and check
We complete the EX form your case calls for with you (15 for a number, 18 for the green certificate, 17 for a TIE, 19 for an EU family card), prepare the fee slip under the matching code, and tick every copy against the list.
- 03
Book and brief
We search for a cita previa at an office that handles your case, in the city or at a comisaría of the province. Before the day you get a one-sheet summary: address, time, and the papers in the order the officer asks for them.

Where the NIE is done in Barcelona
The city splits the NIE by passport. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens go to the Policía Nacional office at Rambla Guipúzcoa 74, in Sant Martí; non-EU citizens who do not live in Spain go to Passeig de Sant Joan 189, by Joanic. Finished TIE cards are handed out at Carrer de Mallorca 213. How the two NIE offices divide the work has its own guide, and if you live in L’Hospitalet, Badalona, Sabadell or another town nearby, the comisarías of the province may be the shorter trip.

05 Empadronamiento Barcelona
An address in the city: the padró, then everything else
Once you have a home in Barcelona, the Ajuntament registers you at it. That registration, the padró, is what health centres, schools and many procedures ask for next.

06 Why people use us
Paperwork prepared the way the counter reads it
-
A file read twice
Every document is checked against the list for your procedure before the appointment, because a missing copy costs a slot that was hard to find.
-
The right counter
Rambla Guipúzcoa, Passeig de Sant Joan, Carrer de Mallorca or a comisaría of the province: we tell you which one your case belongs to, with the official source.
-
Spanish paperwork, plain-English notes
The forms and the counter are in Spanish. Our explanations are in plain English, with the Spanish term next to each one so you recognise it on the day.
-
Independent, and saying so
Nobody here works for the administration, and we say it plainly. Every step we take with you can also be taken alone, and we explain how.
07 Beyond the file
Two partners for the rest of the move
Our work stops at the paperwork of the number. When the move around it needs a hand, or when starting online suits you better than a Barcelona counter, these two services take over.
